THE CARL FREDMAN FAMILY

    Carl Axel Ludwig Fredman (1862-1929) came to Minnesota from Västergötland, Sweden in 1883. He met Ida Ostlund (1865-1928) who was also from Västergötland, Sweden. She had migrated, with her parents, from Sweden in 1871. Carl & Ida went to Moscow, Idaho, where they were married June 8, 1892. After living there a few months, they migrated to Pope County on a farm near Lowry, Minn. About 1901 they moved to Douglas County to a farm 6 miles east of Miltona and 2 miles south of Rose City. This farm is still operated by one of his grandsons, Eldred Fredman. Besides his farm work, Carl was active in the Evangelical Free Church in Spruce Hill Township, acting as lay pastor at times.
    Eight children were born to the Carl Fredmans: John C., Edith C., Phebe C., Joseph C., Verna C., Evert C., Wallace C., and Lloyd C.
    John Clarence (1894-1965) married Lydia E. Anderson (1894- ), a daughter of Frans G. Anderson, also of Spruce Hill Township, John C. farmed on the original Carl Fredman farm. He was active in community affairs, serving on creamery, school and church boards. They had five children: Phyllis E. Helling of Sepulveda, California; Kenneth J. (died in infancy); Arlie D. farms in Spruce Hill; Merlyn V. teaches high school mathematics in Phoenix Arizona; and Eldred D. farms in Spruce Hill.
    Edith C. (1896-1961) married Arthur S. Anderson (1892-1977), a son of Frans G. Anderson. Arthur S. farmed on the original Frans Anderson farm. They had five children: Adola(1920-1972) was a missionary to Zaire, Africa for 25 years with the Evangelical Free Church of America Overseas Mission; Waldo of Costa Mesa, California; Muriel Dressler of Excelsier, Minn.; Verla Clunes of Albany, Oregon, and Majelle Melzer of Spruce Hill. Majelle lives on her Dad's farm.
    Phebe C. (1897- ) married Ernest Henderson. They had five children: Eileen Lindgren of Denver, Colorado; Audrie Nicholas of Mesa, Ariz.; Rodger pastors an Evangelical Free Church in Brisbane, California; Laurel farms in Spruce Hill; and Orahlie England of Mesa, Ariz.
    Joseph C. (1899-1966) married Anna Klevgard. They had three girls: Jeanne Bennett of San Diego, Calif.; Carol Erickson of Alexandria, Minn.; and Ardith Predweshny of Minneapolis, Minn.
    Verna C. (1902- ) married George Ericson. They had one daughter, Marilyn Lugg of Salinas, California.
    The other 3 sons died in their youth: Evert C. (1904-1924); Wallace C. (1910-1918); and Lloyd (Jan. 1908-July 1908). All deceased members of the family are buried in the Rose City Evangelical Free Church Cemetery in Spruce Hill Township.
